From high alpine meadows and yawning mountain valleys to lush rainforest and a wild coastline, this tour will have you riding some of Australia’s most spectacular scenery. We have the freedom to start and finish each days ride in the best spots, with our bus returning us to snug roofed accommodation at the day’s end.

Summary:

Total distance: Approximately 30 - 50 km each day.
Duration: 6 days / 5 nights.
Cost: $1595.
Includes: All meals and accommodation, full support and tour guide, transport each day.
Suited to: Mountain or Hybrid bikes. Bring your own, or we can supply a mountain bike for the tour for $75.
Accommodation:
Simple but comfortable Lodge or Country Pub.
Departs and finishes: Orbost, East Gippsland, Victoria..

Tour inclusions

  • Three excellent meals each day from lunch Monday to lunch Saturday, stuffed with carbs, protein and flavor!
  • Comfortable twin or four share room accommodation with character – rustic farmstay lodge, a classic country pub and timber lodge in the dunes amongst banksias and bloodwoods. All accommodation is twin or occasionally four share; if you are coming alone we will match you with a suitable room mate/s of the same gender.
  • Fresh brewed tea and coffee, high energy snacks, water and seats at rest stops in stunning locations during the day.
  • All transport throughout the ride with our friendly experienced local driver; a pick up service during the day so you can choose just how much of each day you want to ride.
  • Full luggage transport between accommodation venues.
  • Choice routes through remote country: a bus trip from our accommodation to and from start and finish of most days rides gives us the freedom to explore some of the very best the area has to offer, from wild mountains to deep rainforest and empty windswept beaches! Bikes are transported on a custom built bike trailer.
  • Knowledgeable local tour leader with extensive cycle tour experience.
  • Meet and talk to local people: learn about the landscape you are riding through.
  • First aid and mechanical back up, communications system for safety in remote areas.

You will need to provide:

  • Mountain or hybrid bike in good condition.OR hire one from us for $75 for the 6 days.
  • Helmet and suitable cycling clothes (list provided on booking)
  • A suitable level of fitness How fit do I need to be?
  • Toiletries and personal effects.
  • Camera, definitely. Don’t miss the shots of a lifetime!
  • A sense of adventure!

 

Itinerary

(See below for definitions of road surfaces. Distances are approximate – start and finish points may be varied to suit the conditions and the group)

  • Day 1. 35 km, 40% forest, 60% unsealed. Our bus takes us to our home for the next 2 nights, Karoonda Park, Gelantipy. Leaving from the lodge, we ride out to the edge of the escarpment of the Snowy River Valley with stunning vistas, before winding through the magnificent tall forest along its edge.
  • Day 2. 32km, with an extension option for keen riders.40% forest 60% unsealed. Snowgums, billy tea and an alpine meadow reward the ride up into the Alpine National Park where both Snowy and Murray Rivers have their source.
  • Day 3. Up to 55km, 100% unsealed. Gently rolling farming country abruptly ends at the drop into the magnificent Snowy River Valley. Cross the river at McKillops Bridge before winding up the Deddick River Valley. Our bus takes us to Delegate where the classic country pub is our base for 2 nights.
  • Day 4. 42km, 70% forest 30% unsealed. Towering Shining Gums, cool temperate rainforest and hidden murmuring creeks characterize the day’s ride through Errinundra National Park and the surrounding forests.
  • Day 5. 55 km, 40% forest 60% unsealed. A fantastic downhill run down into the warm temperate rainforest and farmland of the Combienbar valley below the plateau. Short walks provide an opportunity to experience Errinundra on foot for a change. A short trip by bus transforms the landscape once more to coastal forest and heathland, where the ride finishes at our coastal lodge in the dunes behind the sea at Cape Conran.
  • Day 6. 40km, 50% forest 50% unsealed. A final days ride with the best of everything: rainforest, tall trees, a fabulous downhill run and lunch in the rainforest.
