Ciclismo Cycling Tours is heading to the 2011 Giro d’Italia and the race promises to be as exciting as ever and one of the most difficult courses for 2011. We start off in the rolling hills of Tuscany where we can acclimatise and get used to the new timezone. We spend a couple of days riding around the beautiful hilltop towns and enjoying the fabulous Italian food and wine on offer.
Once we are used to the Italian way of life, we move up into the mountains and catch our first stage of the Giro in the Val di Fassa. We get the chance to ride amongst the stunning peaks of the Dolomiti and catch an uphill individual time trial. To finish, we once again move to one of the most beautiful regions in Italy – the great lakes. We are staying right on the water where you can either relax and enjoy all the sightseeing or continue to follow the Giro as it wends its way across Lago Maggiore to the foothills of the French/Italian Alps for the penultimate “Queen” stage.
We finish up in the big city of Milano either watching the final stage and time trial or doing some last minute shopping.
This is your holiday and a chance to ride the quiet and picturesque roads of Italy – visit the regional town and villages and enjoy the local produce and wines. Along the way, we follow about 6 stages of the Giro and you will get the chance to see your favourite riders at the start as they sign on or as they chase each other up the hills to finish. All hotels are 3 to 4 star rated, are family owned and run to give you the true Italian experience. We make sure you don’t have to worry about anything much – other than which regional dish you choose for dinner or how many photo opportunities you need as you ride some of the most stunning scenery in the world.
