Grape Crusher 6 Hour

10:00am Sat 23 October 2010

GRAPE CRUSHER CANCELLED

Our organising committee met and unfortunately we have decided to postpone the Grape Crusher because of the freakish amount of rain Orange has received. We have been holding off making this decision as long as possible hoping that we might get a run of dry weather, however every couple of days it pours again.

There are 3 main reasons:
We have excellent tracks and we don’t want to trash them,
We have a great relationship with State Forests and an obligation to look after their land,
and lastly it wouldn’t give visitors good value if we proceeded.

Of course full refunds are being arranged in the next couple of days.

Hopefully we will re-schedule early next year. Thanks for the interest and sorry for any inconvenience.

The Central West Off Road Bicycle Club (CWORBC) will be hosting its inaugural Grape Crusher 6 Hour Race at Kinross Forest on Saturday 23rd October 2010. The event will tie in with the popular Orange Wine Week Festival, celebrating the regions’ award-winning wineries and restaurants.

Kinross Forest is one of NSW mountain bikings best kept secrets. The mountain biking trails include over 20 kilometres of purpose-built singletrack through lush pine forest and over varied terrain.

The event is open to all mountain bikers and will cater to all abilities, from elite riders to corporate teams. The course will also include some fire trail climbs and fast descents so that there are plenty of passing opportunities. Participants may ride solo, or in teams of up to four people.

If you have never ridden at Kinross Forest before, make sure you mark this date down. Why not make a weekend of it and together sample the Central West’s best singletracks and single-vineyard wines!

Location

The city of Orange is located approximately four hours travelling distance by car from Sydney and three hours from Canberra. Kinross State Forest is situated on the northeast edge of town, a 10 minute drive or twenty minute bike ride from the city centre of Orange.

Course

CWORBC are planning an exciting course for the race, featuring a “2 course meal” feature – that is, the route will change mid-way through the race – not because of boredom, but just to give visitors more of a taste of the excellent tracks on offer. Each course will offer a large percentage of singletrack suited to mountain bike riders of all abilities, with a good combination of easy flowing smooth sections teamed with some more technical short and sharp hills, fast descents and some fun surprises thrown in along the way.

A map of Kinross Forest showing mountain bike trails and fire trails is available on the maps page. A printable map can also be downloaded here.

Entries

Participants will be able to enter online through the online entry system on the MTBA website at a date to be announced in the near future. Entry fees will be as follows:

  • Solo riders: $45
  • Pairs: $75
  • Team of 3: $100
  • Corporate Teams (4 people): $150

CWORBC is proud to support the Disability Sport-a-Month program in Orange. This charitable organisation aims to offer people with a disability the opportunity to try a different sport each month and connect with local sporting clubs. Fifty percent of the profits generated by the Grape Crusher 6 Hour event will go towards providing sporting equipment for this program. The other half of profits will go toward helping to build and maintain mountain biking facilities at Kinross forest for the regional mountain biking community.

Orange Wine Week and Accommodation

Information and program details for the Orange Wine Week Festival can be found here and tourism information, including accommodation, is available from the Orange City Council Visitors Centre by phone on 1800 069 466, or online.

Please note that due to the popularity of the Orange Wine Week Festival, accommodation will need to be booked well in advance.

Camping is available at the Colour City Caravan Park at the Orange showground, or at Canobolas Caravan Park, both of which are a short drive or ride from the event centre at Kinross Forest.
