Central Coast Century bike ride to defeat ALS

7:00am Sat 9 July 2011
0

This year our event offers routes for both Cyclists and Walkers.  For Cyclists, in addition to our spectacular and challenging namesake Central Coast Century route (100 miles), we offer two additional routes, a Metric Century (100 km / 62 miles), and a family-friendly Fun Ride (25 km / 15 miles), to provide the cycling experience that’s right for you.*  For Walkers, we offer a scenic route along the tranquil Bob Jones Trail.

All routes start and finish in the quaint coastal village of Avila Beach, California, and are located entirely within beautiful San Luis Obispo County, home territory of the Team HTC-Columbia international professional cycling team.  All cycling routes take the rider through gently rolling coastal foothills, while the 100 mile and 100 km routes include long stretches along the pristine estuary and coastline of Morro Bay; the 100 mile route adds a challenging excursion inland, including a scenic climb to an 1830 summit.

Whether you choose to ride 25 kilometers, 100 kilometers, or 100 miles, you will travel a route fully supported from start to finish with friendly rest stops, healthy food to fuel the journey, SAG support, and fans to cheer you on!  Additionally, Century and Metric Century riders will enjoy a fully supplied and staffed lunch stop in the beach town of Cayucus.

Walkers will leave the Event Headquarters at the north end of the Avila Beach Boardwalk and head across town, first to the Avila Beach Resort Golf Course, and then to the Bob Jones Trail.  The turaround back to the beach is where the Bob Jones Trail crosses under tthe San Luis Bay Drive, making a 4.0 mile round trip.

At the end of the ride and walk, all participants will be treated to either a delicious Santa Maria style bar-b-que (grilled tri-tip or chicken, with baked beans and garlic bread) or a wonderful vegetarian repast.
