Riders participating in L’Étape du California will cover the same route as the professionals on Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California. The route is breathtaking in its beauty and difficulty, covering some of the most famous and iconic sections of road in the San Gabriel mountains: Glendora Mountain Road, Glendora Ridge Road, and the sharp switchbacks up to the Mt Baldy Ski Area. By the time riders return to their cars or homes in Claremont, they will have climbed close to 10,000 vertical feet and ridden close to 100 miles. While extremely challenging and requiring a high level of fitness and mental toughness, there will be ample support and multiple bailouts.
Details of the route are now available on the map section of our page.
A reminder that this is a rules of the road ride and NOT A RACE. Ride safely and in control at all times. Obey all traffic laws, signs, signals, markings and directions of peace officers. Unless directed by a peace officer, you have no right of way over other pedestrians or vehicular traffic on the highway. Always ride single file except when passing. Absolutely no headphones.
The maps are now posted on the "Maps" Section to our website! Look for our black and white arrows at any intersection where a decision must be made. There will be maps available at packet pick up, please take one!
Each cyclist will receive a timing chip. Each rider will receive an overall time. All riders will also be eligible for King/Queen of the Mountain prizes based on the best overall climb time of the day. KOM/QOM winners will be announced within 24 hours and will receive L’Etape du California Merchandise Package and other items. Do not lose your chip! There will be a replacement fee.
ALL riders must be off the course by 6:00pm.
