What is Amys Ride all about?

Amys Ride is a recreational mass participation road ride from Adelaide to McLaren Vale.

Amys Ride supports the Amy Gillett Foundation and aims to help promote key messages of safe and responsible road use, increase awareness of the need for more shared respect, raise much needed funds and honour the memory of Amy Gillet who was killed by a motorist while riding in Germany.

When you ride in Amys Ride, you are a part of a broader community supporting the "a metre matters" message, encouraging mutual awareness and respect of bike riders and motorists on our roads.

In 2009, despite forecast temperatures in the mid-30s, over 3000 riders turned out to support the Amy Gillett Foundation and Bicycle SA at Amys Ride. It was a spectacular sight to see a sea of cyclists make their way onto the Southern Expressway that is exclusively closed for the event........

"a metre matters"

In 2009, over 3,000 people wore the "a metre matters" road safety jersey on Amys Ride, but the jersey is only part of a broader campaign including television ads and signage. To help the Amy Gillett Foundation spread this message to all motorists they are asking your help by joining the fundraising challenge and getting your friends and family to sponsor you. Not only will you be keeping you and your family safe, but everyone who raises over $500 will also receive a pair of great Oakley sunglasses. Ride options

100KM
If you dont get out of bed for anything less than 100km and you quite like the idea of riding the Southern Expressway as well as having a crack at the famous Willunga Hill, then youre in luck, because this rides for you.

60KM
But if riding the Southern Expressway is thrilling enough and youre not really a hill-climbing person, then the 60km option is the go. Factor in some picturesque coastal roads - plus a well-earned glass of the local drop and some damn fine food at the finish - and you have yourself the perfect ride.

30KM
And for families, kids, riders young and old, you can simply join the masses along the Southern Expressway for the 30km option, and before you know it finish at McLaren Vale, triumphant in the sun.

25KM

The Southern Expressway starts with a challenging hill climb. If you would prefer not to ride it, or are at all unsure of making the full Southern Expressway distance (20km in 1 hour), you may instead start at the top of the hill! You still ride along the Southern Expressway, but from its intersection with Majors Road, OHalloran Hill. This cuts out 5km from the total distance, and makes for an easy start.
