Newcastle to Dungog charity bike ride

  • Start: Staggered start from 6.45am to 7.00 (Riders to be at Nobbys Beach car park by 6.30am. )
  • Finish: Dowling Street Dungog.
  • Return: Pre book a limited Train departing at 1.30pm, get picked up, ride back or stay over. Please note that  the train is limited to the first 100 people.
  • Whats On: Dungog Pedalfest www.pedalfest.org.au
  • Restrictions: Must be over 18.
  • Numbers Limited: To 500 riders. First in first served.
  • Entry fee: $55 plus optional donation to HMRI via online registration.
  • Major Sponsor: Addison Partners Accountants.
  • Sponsors: Omega Cycleworks, RailCorp, Clearwater Services and HL Mullane.
  • Benefactors: 75% net proceeds to HMRI, 25% Newcastle Rotary charity work.

Start

There will be a staggered start between 6.45am and 7.00am with riders self classified in different groups depending on ability. There will be four groups with the faster riders starting first, slower riders starting last and average riders in the middle.

Classification

Riders will be self classified in the following four groups and if possible start in their nominated group. However, this is only a guide and will depend on the numbers on the day.

  1. Elite -             Anticipated Pace 40kmph, Start 6.45am.
  2. Racers -        Anticipated Pace 32kmph, Start 6.50am.
  3. Tourers -       Anticipated Pace 26kmph, Start 6.55am.
  4. Cruisers -    Anticipated Pace 16 kmph, Start 7.00am.

Pace and formation

Riders will need to ride two a breast in pelaton formation in the bike lane. Single file may be required when the bike lane narrows or disappears. Riders must keep left and obey traffic signals and follow the road rules. There will be a stop and go signal at the Heham bridge to assist cyclists merging with western approach traffic.  

Parking and facilities

There will be limited parking and facilities at the start.

The Rotary Club of Newcastle will be selling pre-ride egg and bacon rolls.

Finish

The finish will the main street of Dungog where various activities will be taking place as part of Pedalfest.

Cut Off

All riders must arrive at Dungog before 1.30pm. Riders who have not finished by this time will either be picked up by the sag wagon or will no longer be considered as part of the event.
 

Lunch

You can buy a sausage sandwich from the BBQ satffed by Rotary Club of Dungog.
 

Return Train

We have organised a special train thanks to Rail Corp which will depart Dungog Railway Station at 1.30pm for up to 100 cyclists. A train token will be sent out to the first 100 cyclists who tick the box requesting a train on the online entry form. A token for the train will be sent out to you in the mail with the ride number. A news item will be posted when we have reached 100.

Any cyclist that miss out will have to make their own arrangements. Please note that all other rail services have a limit of 10 bikes. A number of cyclist will ride back but they do so at their own risk.
